Algebra Textbook

Algebra is a course consisting of 9th and 10th graders.  In this course, students will complete Algebra over two years rather than the traditional one year course.  The rationale for a two year Algebra class is students will cover the same topics as the one year Algebra class, but will do it over two years to gain a better understanding of the topics covered.   A standard scientific calculator is required for this class.  Also, high school students need at least two credits of math to graduate, which they will satisfy if they pass all four semesters of the 2 year Algebra program.  Below is a list of the major topics covered in the 2-year Algebra course.

  • Operations with real numbers – how to add, subtract, multiply and divide real numbers including negative numbers.
  • Solving equations – how to solve one, two or multi-step equations.
  • Solving inequalities – how to solve one, two or multi-step inequalities.
  • Relations and functions – what is a relation and a function, and how to write a linear function.
  • Linear equations – characteristics of linear equations, how to graph linear equations and write linear equations.
  • Solving systems of linear equations – how to solve systems of linear equations using graphing, substitution and elimination.
